At Cumato, working with us means being part of a small team that turns local farm produce into sun-dried tomato and pickle preserves for homes, gifting and food service. We are based in Paarl and we hire people who are practical, organised and ready to do careful work every day.

Why People Enjoy Working at Cumato

We have been making preserves in Paarl since 2011, with a steady focus on good ingredients, clean handling and reliable service. The work is hands-on and varied, from checking produce on arrival to packing jars for courier deliveries to Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Gqeberha. If you prefer practical work and a team that gets on with it, you will feel at home here.

Our work suits people who take pride in detail. A label stuck straight, a crate packed well, or a recipe followed properly all make a difference. In a food business, the small things matter, and so does showing up ready to work. We also understand real local conditions like summer heat, load-shedding and the need to keep production moving without wasting time.

The Roles We Usually Hire For

We do not keep a fixed public vacancy list. Instead, we look for people across production, sourcing, fulfilment, sales and customer care as the business needs grow. Some roles are very hands-on, while others suit people who are comfortable with admin, scheduling or talking to clients. We may also need support during busy seasonal periods for gift boxes, hampers, wedding orders and hospitality supply.

  • Production and packing support in the factory
  • Farm sourcing and receiving support
  • Courier fulfilment and stock handling
  • Sales coordination and stockist follow-up
  • Customer care and enquiry handling
  • Recipe development support and kitchen prep

What We Look for in an Applicant

We value people who work neatly, pay attention and keep to time. Food work is not complicated, but it does ask for consistency, tidy habits and respect for process. If you have experience in a kitchen, packing line, warehouse, farm receiving or client service, that can be useful. A willingness to learn is just as important.

We also appreciate people who can communicate clearly and work well with others. Our team includes production, sourcing, sales, fulfilment and customer care, so good handovers matter. If you are calm under pressure and comfortable with a busy day, that is a strong fit. Some days are straightforward, others are a bit rushed, especially when courier cut-offs and bulk orders land together.

  • Good attention to detail
  • Reliable attendance and timekeeping
  • Clear communication in a team setting
  • Comfort with physical, practical work
  • Basic reading and record keeping ability

Where Our Work Takes Place

Our base is in Paarl, Western Cape, and that is where most of the daily work happens. Depending on the role, you may spend time in production areas, packing stations, receiving spaces or office support functions. We also work closely with local farms and suppliers across the region, so some roles involve collection planning, stock checks and coordination with courier schedules.

Because we supply customers across South Africa, we need people who understand that timing matters. A bulk order for a hotel in Durban or a gift box run for Pretoria has to be handled properly from the start. The work is practical and steady, with clear expectations and real deadlines.

How to Apply Through Our Contact Page

If you would like to join us, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and tell us which type of role you are interested in. Please include a short note about your experience, where you are based, and when you would be available to start. If you have worked in food production, packing, sales or courier fulfilment before, mention it clearly.

We review applications when we have a suitable opening. If your background matches what we need, someone from our team will be in touch through the details you submit on the form. Please do not send multiple submissions, one clear application is enough.

A Team That Stays Close to the Product

Working here means understanding the product all the way through, from farm sourcing to the final jar. That makes the day-to-day work more interesting and helps everyone see how their role fits into the bigger picture. Whether you are helping Marli with recipe development, supporting Lindiwe in production, or assisting Thabo with courier fulfilment, the work has a direct impact.

We are a local team with local roots, and we prefer people who are dependable, practical and ready to contribute from day one. If that sounds like you, we would be glad to hear from you. Good work tends to speak for itself, and there is always room for someone who does the job properly.
